Today I enjoyed two wonderful portions of the Bible:

Ephesians 5:18b-19 – “But be filled in spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and psalming with your heart to the Lord.”

Colossians 3:16 – “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God.”

When we look at these two portions together, we can see that the way to be filled in spirit is by singing and psalming the Word.

Have you tried this before? I have, and I’ve discovered it’s a great way to be filled with the riches of Christ contained in His Word. In my experience, I sometimes feel inwardly empty and dissatisfied even though I know I have the Lord in me. It’s easy for me to murmur and reason instead of praising and thanking the Lord. In these times, I’ve found that singing the Word in spirit is a great way to be brought out of my misery and into the enjoyment of Christ.
